From the first organized meeting, held in June, 1979, to the
application for recognition as a "Charitable Organization" under the
Internal Revenue Code, to today, CAP has grown and flourished. In February, 2007, the organization received the final declaration from the IRS that their probationary period, after application, was over and they the organization had been approved as an official
501(c)(3) Charitable Organization under the Federal Tax Code. This is
an incredible milestone in the history of the organization as this
status allows the organization to reach a wider spectrum of
benefactors, including corporations that do business in the greater
Birmingham metropolitan area.
While the organization will be aggressively seeking these donations,
it is the "grass-roots" donors, the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual &
Transgender members of the Birmingham community that will continue to
allow the organization to grow and continue to bring exciting events
and entertainers to the Birmingham Area during the annual LGBT Pride
Celebration, held the first week of June each year.
